Richard Kershaw Wines Vineyards in Elgin, South Africa

Born and raised in Yorkshire's Steel City, Sheffield, Richard Kershaw enjoyed a successful career as a chef before embarking on his journey into wine. After travelling extensively across the world and exploring winemaking in California, Chile, Argentina, France, Germany and Hungary, Richard arrived in South Africa in 1999 and, by 2009, was Group Winemaker for the renowned Stellenbosch wineries Mulderbosch and Kanu. In 2011 Richard became a Master of Wine (MW) and then established Richard Kershaw Wines in January 2012 making him one of only 10 MW's actively making their own wines.

Based in the cool climate of Elgin, in the Overberg wine region of the Western Cape, Richard creates site-specific, cool-climate wines from high-quality French clones of Chardonnay, Syrah and more recently Pinot Noir grapes. The climate here leans toward Southern Burgundy and the Northern Rhône, affording Richard’s wines a surprisingly Old World feel.

Richard's keen eye and attention to detail filters down to the smaller points which is clearly apparent on the beautiful labels, capsules and the packaging of his wines.
