Skillogalee

Clare Valley Skillogalee has been a maker of world class, hand crafted wines since 1976. The wines are produced exclusively from grapes grown on their own vineyards and have won many awards for the quality of their wines.The vineyards were planted in the early 1970s on what was then, at almost 500 metres above sea level, one of the highest vineyards in South Australia. The rows are planted on the contour in shallow stony soils mainly on steep eastern facing slopes. The vines are hand pruned and the fruit is mainly hand-picked. Yields are extremely low but the vineyard produces intense flavours and aromas and deep richly coloured reds. Skillogalee is a small producer, giving them the opportunity to hand-make individual wines in small batches. Fruit handling and vinification are undertaken using the best of traditional and modern technologies - modern winemaking techniques for whites to preserve the fruit aromas and flavours and more traditional techniques for reds - the use of open fermenters and basket pressing to maximise flavour and colour without over-extraction.

	Skillogalee Gewurztraminer 2005 Bin No. SKILLGEWUR Price: £11.50 The Clare Valley is perfect for ripening aromatic white grape varieties, as the evenings are quite cool and help to build up intense aroma compounds. Fruit is sourced exclusively from the Skillogalee estate, the vineyard yielding around 35 hl/ha. 	Skillogalee Riesling 2004 Bin No. SKILLRIESL Price: £9.75 This dry white wine was made from hand-picked Riesling fruit from low yielding vines which grow on the highest slopes of the vineyard at Skillogalee (about 500 metres above sea level). 	Skillogalee Shiraz 2003 Bin No. SKILLSHIRA Price: £12.95 The fruit for this Skillogalee Shiraz was handpicked from low yielding, un-irrigated vines growing on the slopes around the homestead, around 450m above sea level.
