Clare Valley Tucked away in a small niche corner of the Clare Valley Skillogalee's beautifully contoured and mature, established vineyards form the catchment area for the beginning of Skillogalee Creek, which eventually feeds lower areas of Clare. Dave and Di Palmer have been at the helm of Skillogalee since its inception in 1976 and producing expertly hand crafted wines from grapes grown exclusively on their own vineyards Skillogalee have won many awards for the outstanding quality of their wines. The vineyards were planted in the early 1970s on what was then, at almost 500 metres above sea level, one of the highest vineyards in South Australia. The rows are planted on the contour in shallow stony soils mainly on steep eastern facing slopes. The vines are hand pruned and the fruit is mainly hand-picked. Yields are kept extremely low allowing the vineyard to produce intense flavours and aromas and deep richly coloured reds. Skillogalee is a small producer, giving them the opportunity to hand-make individual wines in small batches. Fruit handling and vinification are undertaken using the best of traditional and modern technologies - modern winemaking techniques for whites to preserve the fruit aromas and flavours and more traditional techniques for reds - the use of open fermenters and basket pressing to maximise flavour and colour without over-extraction. This year witnesses the first release of the super-premium 'Trevarrick' Single Contour Riesling and Cabernet. These wines represent the very best of any particular plot, parcel and vintage. Unfortunately these wines are only available in tiny quantities, so we are unable to guarantee supply all year round.
