The red wine Pelago is produced from a selection of the best grapes from Umani Ronchi's Osimo vineyards sited at an altitude of 150 - 200 metres.
All the grapes are handpicked before alcoholic fermentation on the skins for 15 days followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is matured for 14 months in Allier and Tronçais oak barriques and then refined further in the bottle for 12 months in a temperature-controlled room.
The final Pelago blend consists of Montepulciano (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) and Merlot (10%) grapes. The nose is full with ripe blackcurrant fruit aromas supported by spice and liquorice. The palate shows enormous depth of flavour with layers of plum, blackcurrant and fresh tobacco to the fore. The finish is soft, supple and ripe with excellent rounded tannins.
