Villa Arvedi Amarone Valpolicella Valpantena 2006 - Bertani, Italy

Villa Arvedi Amarone Valpolicella Valpantena 2006 - Bertani, Italy
Bin No. BERTVAAM06
Price: £28.00
The Villa Arvedi Amarone is produced in the hills of Valpantena, the only “cru” denomination in the whole Valpolicella area. The Villa Arvedi Amarone adopts new fermentation techniques together with the traditional drying techniques used in the production of Amarone to give this wine great elegance and balance.

All the grapes are hand harvested in bunches and then transported to the loft above the Grezzana cellar to dry out. After about three months withering away in the loft, the grapes develop new aromas, greater concentration of flavour and higher sugar content. Midway through January the grapes are picked from the bunches, pressed and vinified. Part of the wine is aged in Slavonian oak casks and a small part in barriques for approximately 30 months. There then follows a period of six months ageing in bottle prior to release.

The final Villa Arvedi Amarone (a blend of 50% Corvina, 50% Rondinella grapes) is deep dark ruby in colour with an enticing aroma of black cherry, berries spice and dried fruits. The palate is extremely creamy with soft tannins and well integrated oak. This is a lighter, fruitier and younger version of Bertani's iconic Amarone Classico, but at 15% abv still a bit of a monster!

To achieve this they have brought together a leading New Zealand winemaker, a dedicated group of growers, and a small modern winery facility where top quality fruit can receive the 'hands-on' treatment that i
