The vineyard for this wine lies at an altitude of 250m above sea level southwest of the town Nuits St Georges. The harvest, carried out entirely by hand, is brought to the winery in small plastic boxes where each bunch undergoes a thorough selection process. Once the grapes are in the tank maceration lasts for approximately six days and alcoholic fermentation takes place with only natural yeasts. Punching of the cap and pumping over of the must takes place during fermentation and then after 15 days in tank, both the free-run and press juices are blended and racked before being placed in barrel. Maturation in barrel lasts for approximately 18 months, at the end of which time the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
The Domaine Lécheneaut Nuits-St-Georges is an outstanding wine that is deep ruby red in colour and offers an aroma of red fruits and spice. Nuit-St-George does have a reputation for slightly aggressive tannins, but that's not so here, with wonderfully ripe berry fruit and soft voluptuous tannins. The palate is rich and well balanced and the finnish is extremely long and elegant.
