At the foot of Marlborough's dry Wither hills - adjacent to the Lawsons's Dry Hills winery - the Woodward and Lawson's vineyards consistently produce intensely flavoured Gewürztraminer grapes.
Both vineyards were harvested and the grapes gently pressed with minimal skin contact; all the pressings were kept separately. The Lawson's vineyard was picked in two separate lots (young vines & old vines), these lots were then vinified separately. The pressings from each parcel were fermented in old French oak barriques (7.5% of the total blend) and allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation.
The resulting Lawson's Dry Hills Gewürztraminer 2007 displays wonderful lychee, rosewater, lemon sherbet and passion fruit aromas. The palate is elegant, soft, round and luscious with great concentration. Lychee and lemon fruit flavours feature strongly with rosewater, musk and floral characters adding further complexity.
A trademark of the Lawson's Dry Hills Gewürztraminer is the long spicy finish, and this vintage does not disappoint. The wine has great length with lovely ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg notes.
