The grapes for the Yering Station Reserve Chardonnay were harvested at optimum flavour intensity during the month of March.
Two different Yarra Valley vineyards were handled individually in the winery to achieve greater complexity. All the juice was cold settled in tank with a large portion of solids added at racking then transferred to oak for fermentation using 50% wild yeast and lees stirring. The wine was aged in 60% new French oak barrels for a year and in bottle for a further year prior to its release.
Pale straw in colour the Yering Station Reserve Chardonnay displays citrus, peach and fig elements with subtle creamy oak and nutty aromas. The palate is intense and well structured with great purity of flavour, fine acidity, balance and length.
The Yering Station Reserve Chardonnay won a Silver medal at the International Wine Challenge and a Silver Award in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2007.
Including it in his best 100 wines for 2007 Matthew Jukes remarked "This is a proud, rich, smooth, stone fruit and slippery fondant-covered Chardonnay and it's positively decadent in its make up. Vanilla essence, unctuous nutty creams, oleaginous citrus fruit emulsions and all manner of heady musks crowd the palate - this is heroic white wine”
