Ninquén 2005 - Colchagua Valley, Chile

Ninquén 2005 - Colchagua Valley, Chile
Bin No. NINQUEN05
Price: £17.00
The Ninquén 2005 is a red wine made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown exclusively on the Ninquén Mountain Vineyard at an altitude of 1,600 feet above sea-level. Grapes for the wine are all hand-picked from the 10 year old vines.

After vinification Ninquén is aged for 22 months in 20% American and 80% French oak. 80% of the oak is new, while the remainder is second use. The wine is then bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve the high fruit concentration, colour and intense aromas.

Deep ruby red in colour, Ninquén has rich black berry fruit aromas combined with elegant toasty oak. On the palate the wine is complex, full and rich. It displays layers of black cherry, currants enveloped in warm toasty oak. The firm tannins give the wine structure and add to the lingering finish.

Ninquén will age gracefully for almost a decade should you wish to cellar it.

Since its inception in 1985 the Planeta winery has, in a relatively short space of time, established itself as one of the most dynamic and quality orientated wineries in the whole of Italy.

The fact that the estate is based in the south west corner of Sicily – an island which for so long has been a quality winemaking backwater – makes the achievement all the more remarkable. Run by cousins Fr
