Guidalberto is the second wine from the famous Tenuta San Guido estate and was launched with the 2000 vintage. At the time it was the first new wine to be released since the great Sassicaia itself was launched in 1968.
The grapes used in the production of Guidalberto (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese) come from vines which abut the Sassicaia vineyards and belong to a cousin of Nicolo's.
All the grapes are fermented separately in stainless steel vats and then the resulting blend is aged in French and American oak barrels for approximately 18 months.
The final wine is a blend of approximately 45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Sangiovese grapes. . The Guidalberto is characterised by a very intense purple colour. On the nose the wine is very aromatic, full of ripe concentrated berries, notes of spice, vanilla and cedar. The palate mirrors the nose and displays a well-balanced structure. The finish is round and gentle, a fantastic wine of real elegance and finesse.
