Santadi Rocca Rubia 2008 - Sardinia, Italy

Santadi Rocca Rubia 2008 - Sardinia, Italy
Bin No. ROCCARUB08
Price: £18.00
The Rocca Rubia Carignano del Sulcis is a fine red wine made by the fantastic co-operative of Santadi. The wine is made from 100% Carignano grapes grown in the Sulcis region of Sardinia, and are harvested by hand before being transported to the winery.

After stemming and crushing, the grapes are fermented and macerated for 12-14 days in stainless steel tanks. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred to small, fine grained 1st and 2nd use French oak casks for a further 10-12 months; this allows the properties of the Carignano grape to further in both aroma and taste. The Rocca Rubia undergoes further aging in the bottle for several months before release.

The final wine is a deep almost solid ruby red in colour; whilst on the nose it displays intense black fruit aromas, spice and hints of leather and liquorice. On the palate the Rocca Rubia is a big full-bodied red wine; velvety mouth-feel with great structure and a long aromatic finish.
