Kevin Judd can lay as much claim as any person for the high international profile now enjoyed by the wines produced in Marlborough. After studying at Roseworthy and then working in the Australian wine idustry for a few vintages, he joined Cloudy Bay as their winemaker at its inception in 1985.

Kevin was responsible for the groundbreaking early wines produced at Cloudy Bay, wines that paved the way for a whole generation of producers who were able to push on doors that had already been opened by the success of Kevin's wines.

He remained at Cloudy Bay until earlier this year, when he finally did what his friends had been urging him to do for years: start his own label.

Greywacke is a sedimentary rock widely found in Marlborough which has given its name to Kevin's new label. All the fruit for this wine has been sourced from a number of his old contacts.
