Forest Hill Block One Riesling 2006 - Great Southern, Western Australia

Block one was the first row of vines to be planted at Forest Hill back in 1965. All the vines are low yielding and hand tendered to by Luke Jolliffe, Forest Hill’s viticulturist. The grapes are selectively hand picked into crates and then once at the winery chilled in a cool room to 0 deg C. The grapes are then hand sorted on the winery sorting table to ensure only the best quality fruit can be whole bunch pressed before settling, racking and inoculation. There then follows a period of slow, cool fermentation with wild yeast to enhance the complexity of the final wine.
The result is a style of Riesling which is intense, with extraordinary length and aromas of lime, spice and complex mineral characters. On the palate the wine displays vibrant citrus notes with clean acidity and a long textured finish that will see the wine age gracefully for many years.
Strictly a limited allocation wine that was awarded 96 points by fabled Australian wine guru James Halliday.
