Sicily The Menfi based co-operative of Cantine Settesoli was for many years famed for the quantity of wine it produced rather than the quality of its wine production. However, with the visionary Diego Planeta at the helm - rewarding growers for the quality of their fruit and not the quantity - Cantine Settesoli is now regarded as one of Europe's most impressive, quality driven and forward thinking wine co-operatives. Although designed for early drinking, the MandraRossa range of wines produced by Settesoli, still manage to retain complexity and interest; which can be so often lacking in wines sold at these prices. And it is for this reason we feel that they should be made available for sale online through the Hic! website. Two significant awards came the way of MandraRossa and Settesoli during the past 12 months. The first was a Tre Bicchieri in the 2009 Gambero Rosso, for the MandraRossa Cartagho 2006 - produced from 100% Nero d'Avola. The second award was 'Winery of the Year' in the 'Good Drinkers Guide (L'Almanacco del Berebene).
