Colomé

ColoméSalta Calchaqui

Founded in 1831, Bodega Colomé is the oldest working winery in Argentina, boasting an impressive 4-hectare single vineyard of Malbec and Cabernet planted on original rootstock vines brought from Bordeaux in 1854.

In June 2001 the 39,000-hectare property became part of the Hess Group from Switzerland. Since then Bodega Colomé has undergone an investment programme including a sophisticated energy station with a water turbine for self-sufficient energy production, a large 30,000 m³ water reservoir, a small modern winery and luxury boutique hotel.

Situated in the Salta region to the far north of Argentina, Colomé’s high altitude mountain vineyards are planted at a majestic 2300m above sea level in the Calchaqui Valley making them the highest in the world. Bio-dynamically farmed, the extreme altitude of the vineyards allows for lengthened days of intense sunshine and cold nights, growing grapes of intense varietal character and sophistication.

Attached to the winery is Estancia Colomé, the luxury boutique hotel, nestled in the foothills and surrounded by vineyards. To find out more about this fascinating property you can visit their website here:

Colomé Amalaya 2008 - Argentina
Bin No. AMALAYA08
Price: £7.50
The Amalaya Malbec is a red wine produced from vineyards at Colomé situated between 1700 and 2500 metres above sea level. In the vineyards drip irrigation is used and all the grapes are harvested by hand with yields kept to 7 tonnes per hectare. At the winery 75% of the grape juice underwent malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, while the remaining 25% was fermented in French oak barrels. After fermentation has completed 30% of the ..

Colomé Estate Malbec 2007 - Argentina
Bin No. COLOME07
Price: £13.50
Colomé's vineyards are the highest in the world, ranging from an altitude of 2200 to 3002 metres. The Colomé Estate Malbec is a red wine composed of Malbec (85%), Cabernet Sauvignon (7%) and Tannat (8%). Grapes for a proportion of the Colomé Estate Malbec come from vines that are 90 to 150 years old - pre-phylloxera French vines! The wine has been aged for 18 months in French oak barrels and then a further 6 months in bottle prior to its re ..

Colomé Torrontes 2008 - Argentina
Bin No. COLOMETO08
Price: £7.50
The Torrontes grape has been labelled by many as Argentina's signature white wine variety; however, in my experience the examples offered up by various producers of this native grape have been somewhat disappointing, often thin, insipid and rather lacklustre! Thankfully, the Colomé Torrontes is a breath of fresh air in comparison. Situated at over 2000 metres above sea level the Torrontes grapes are all hand harvested by hand and yields per he ..

Vina MontGras

Colchagua Valley

Located in Colchagua, a sub valley of Rapel, the Vina MontGras’ vineyards are planted 192km west of Santiago and are naturally protected by the coastal range to the west and the Andes Mountain range to the east.

Considerable investment over the past decade and the arrival of winemaker Sven Bruchfeld - formerly of Errazuriz – have allowed the wines of Montgras to grow from strength t
