Isole e Olena is situated in the western part of Chianti Classico, just north of the village of Castellina. Its 45 hectares of vineyard are situated between 350-450 metres above sea level, and are planted primarily on 'galestro' soil.

The vineyards are planted with Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malvasia del Chianti and Trebbiano. The latter two grapes are used for the production of Isole e Olena Vin Santo.

This estate has been run by Paolo De Marchi since 1976. Paolo's family, originally from Piemonte, purchased the estate in the early 1950's. His attention to detail in both the vineyard and the winery was the driving force that turned quality around and no doubt experience working a vintage or two in California helped. Paolo has consistently lead the way in viticultural innovation in Tuscany for the last fifteen years, planting a wide range of different clones and experimenting extensively with the Sangiovese grape.

Isole e Olena left the marketing consortium 'Gallo Nero' more than ten years ago, preferring the more quality orientated group 'The Consorzio of Chianti Classico'.
