Ata Rangi is an iconic New Zealand winery that goes from strength to strength. Despite the numerous challengers to its title as New Zealand's best Pinot Noir, Ata Rangi remains unrivalled in terms of class, structure and elegance.

Ata Rangi is owned and managed by Clive Paton, his wife Phyll and Clive's sister Alison. Clive planted the original, barren, stony 12-acre home paddock at the edge of the Martinborough village in 1980 and, in doing so, was one of a handful of people who pioneered grape growing in the area. He chose mainly red varieties - Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah - and set out in pursuit of world class wines. Pinot Noir's potential shone from the start - the early wines widely appreciated for their texture and for their pure fruit expression of the variety.

The range is today crafted by winemaker Helen Masters, though Clive remains closely involved at vintage and blending time. Helen is renowned for her fine palate and deft handling of fruit, especially Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, producing understated yet powerful wines.

In addition to the iconic Pinot Noir, Célèbre and elegant Craighall Chardonnay, Ata Rangi produces Crimson, a pinot from younger vines blocks which is immediately more approachable. Crimson Pinot Noir is sold in support of Project Crimson, the charitable conservation trust whose mission is to plant and protect New Zealand's iconic red-flowering native trees, rata and pohutukawa.
