The Cave de Hunawihr co-operative is small, with only 130 members and 200 hectares of vineyard, but is very much quality orientated. An indication of the quality of these Alsace wines is the fact that they were rated the best co-operative in Alsace - and third in the whole of France - in a tasting done by the Revue de Vin de France in 2005. And quality has increased since then, for their wines have distinct varietal characters, good balance and are in the dry style of Alsatian wines.

The vineyards are planted with 24% Riesling, 22% Pinot Blanc, 18% Gewurztraminer, 15% Pinot Gris and 10% Pinot Noir. The Cave de Hunawihr winemaker is Nicolas Garde, who started at the Cave in 2004; his influence in the quality is now being seen in these wines.
