The Shaw and Smith partnership began over a long lunch in 1989 when cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith decided to realise a long held dream to make wine together. Since graduating at Roseworthy College in 1981, Martin had worked with the fabled Brian Croser at Petaluma, whilst Michael had just become the first Australian to pass the rigorous Master of Wine (MW) examination in London.

Significantly the partnership would develop and make Shaw and Smith one of the foremost wine producers in the cool climate region of Adelaide Hills.

Almost two decades later the Shaw and Smith wines are collectively as sleek, elegant and beguiling as they have ever been. Their speciality is the Sauvignon Blanc grape which is regarded as the flagship wine, however this is now a fiercely fought battle between the single vineyard M3 Chardonnay and the cool climate Shiraz which has become a revelation since its inception in 2000.
