Adelaide Hills Third generation vigneron, Tim Knappstein, has stood tall among Australia’s best winemakers for the past 40 years. Since selling his Clare Valley winery in 1995 - and leaving his surname attached to it as part of the sale conditions - Tim’s identity has been masked behind several different brands and labels, though his output as a winemaker has remained both prolific and prodigious. After over a decade of confusion about his name, 'Riposte' was chosen as an appropriate name for a 'comeback label' by Tim Knappstein. The Riposte label, pronounced 'rip-posst' means ‘comeback, reply, retort.’ It is also a fencing term for a quick counter stroke and continuing the fencing inferences, the wines are given sword names. This new brand sets the record straight; Tim Knappstein producing exactly the wine that he feels passionate about, at a standard of excellence the wine industry expects to be associated with his name. Riposte marks a new chapter in Tim’s life with wine, combining his rich knowledge accumulated from a decorated 40 years of winemaking, and his boundless enthusiasm to keep making exceptional wine from premium cool climate grapes of the Adelaide Hills.
