Vina Chocalan

Maipo In 1996, Guillermo Toro, a distinguished Chilean businessman and supplier of glass containers to the wine industry for more than 50 years, proposed an expansion of the family business that would help him realize his long-held dream of filling his bottles with his own high quality red wine; after a rigorous 2-year search for land, he acquired a property in the Maipo Valley of Chile and Viña Chocalán bottled its first wines in 2003, thereby fulfilling the founder's dream. Chocalán is pronounced "Sho-kaw-lann", and it translates as "yellow Blossom", the name given to the area by ancient aboriginal tribes, as the yellow blossoms grow wild there. Viña Chocalán produces aromatic, juicy and flavourful wines, expressing fully the terroir from which the fruit originates. The quality is now resulting in award winning wines; the 2005 Cabernet Franc Reserva won a Gold Medal at the International Wine Challenge, while the 2006 Carmenre was given a 90 point rating by Robert Parker in June 2007.
