Conterno Fantino

Piemonte Claudio Conterno, whose role is based in the vineyard, and Guido Fantino, whose watchful eye and skilled hand makes the wines, started this benchmark estate in 1982. As two extremely talented individuals and members of the 'Langhe in', theirs has been the yardstick by which everyone else measures. The first cru was the Ginestra vineyard, one of the oldest named vineyards in Barolo Mon Forte. Today it has developed in to a 64 acre estate including vines in Bricco Bastia, and a fantastic state of the art winery with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. More recent purchases include a fantastic selection of vines in Parussi, a cru in the Castiglione Falletto, producing The Monpra, a blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera with a dash of Cabernet still blazes a trail in the Langhe Rosso class.

	Conterno Fantino Barolo Sori Ginestra 2000 Bin No. CONTSORI00 Price: £45.00 The vineyard is at 300 metres above sea level, guyot-trained, with a density of 2,000 vines per acre. Temperature-controlled fermentation lasts between 12 to 13 days, after which the wine is aged in oak for approximately 18 to 20 months, prior to a further one and a half year in the bottle. 	Conterno Fantino Monpra 2001 Bin No. CONTMONP01 Price: £25.50 The component varieties of ‘Monpra’ complement one another to perfection: Barbera’s fine colour and acidity, Nebbiolo’s great structure and tannins added to the roundness and texture of Cabernet Sauvignon, make for a fantastic red wine. Aged in new ‘Allier’ oak barriques for 18 months then a further 12 months in bottle, the final wine is: deep in colour with rich elegant aromas and a glossy endless palate. ..
