Brothers In Arms winemaker David Freschi's parents migrated from Italy and established a vineyard in Langhorne Creek. His father and grandfather were winemakers and he followed the family tradition and studied at the University of Adelaide (Roseworthy) in 1987, finishing in 1990. After university he worked overseas in New Zealand, California and Italy from 1990 right through to 1999, but came home in 1998 to take over custodianship of the family vineyard. The Family have been grape growers for 115 years, the brothers are the fifth generation, and tend the original vineyard with Shiraz vines ageing from 40 to 115 years of age.

The grapes for the Brothers in Arms Shiraz were all hand harvested exclusively from 10 blocks of the estate's own vineyards based in Langhorne Creek, South Australia. The water for the vineyards comes via a state-of-the-art drip irrigation system from Lake Alexandrina.
