Leconfield is situated in the heart of Australia’s famous Coonawarra with its rich Terra Rossa soil over limestone providing the ideal environment for growing premium Cabernet Sauvignon. With a strong heritage and long family history in grape-growing and winemaking Richard Hamilton purchased Leconfield winery in 1981, to compliment the McLaren Vale winery he already owned. The vineyards and winery in Coonawarra had been established by Richard’s uncle, Sydney Hamilton in 1974, and the purchase enabled Richard to have access to high quality fruit from two of the premium wine growing regions of Australia. Since then additional vineyards have been planted and the winemaking facilities expanded and improved.
Paul Gordon joined Leconfield Hamilton as Senior Winemaker from the 2002 vintage with more than twenty years of experience and a reputation as one of the countries most highly regarded winemakers. Paul’s winemaking career started in 1979 after graduating with a degree in Oenology from Roseworthy College, over a period of 24 years wines under Paul’s direction have been awarded a total of 29 trophies and 149 gold medals, including the Jimmy Watson Trophy.

Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon has been the flagship of Leconfield since the first release in 1977. The philosophy is to produce a Cabernet Sauvignon displaying both depth and elegance where oak adds complexity and enhances the fruit but is not allowed to dominate.
