Quinta do Crasto

Quinta do CrastoDouro Valley

Situated on the right bank of the river Douro, half way between Regua and Pinhao, Quinta do Crasto has been owned by the Almeida family since 1910. Originally the quinta sold all its wines to shippers until Jorge Roquette took over responsibility after marrying into the family, and ploughed great finance and effort into modernising the vineyards and winery. Port is a fundamental part of any Quinta of the Douro, but the enormous potential of the region needed to be explored and, therefore, the still underdeveloped Douro red wines were a natural extension. To make these wines oenologist David Baverstock was employed in 1994. David has now left the team but the vineyard work has been taken over by Tomas Roquette and the winemaking by Australian Dominic Morris. The grapes are all foot-trodden in lagares with a specially adapted temperature control system and aged in barrique for 2 years before being bottled.

The Quinta do Crasto Douro red is a blend of; 33% Touriga Francesca, 33% Tinto Roriz and 34% Touriga Nacional grapes that are pressed gently to extract fruit flavour and colour without extracting too much tannin. The wine is deep, opaque red in colour with aromas of intense berry fruit with subtle oak complexity. On the palate it is ..

Dog Point Vineyard

Marlborough

James Healy and Ivan Sutherland left Cloudy Bay in 2003 after many years service as winemaker and vineyard manager respectively, to make wine from Ivan’s Dog Point Vineyard.

The name Dog Point is derived from the scrub covered hill, overlooking the Wairau Plains, designated by the early European settlers as a place where shepherds’ dogs who had got lost, or wandered off, took refuge. They
