Domaine de Durban, located in the hills to the east of the village of Beaumes-de-Venise is one of the most important independent producers of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. It achieved this distinction under the late Jacques Leydier, an image that has been maintained by Madame Leydier and her sons, who to this day still own and run it.

The style of Domaine de Durban has evolved into a somewhat lighter, more elegant wine than the days of Jacques but it is still an irresistible wine all the same. The reason for the estates success is its location, which is ideal for ripening grapes – due in part to its wonderful natural aspect which creates a serious of sun-traps, allowing vines to be planted all over the estate.

Grapes are selectively hand picked at optimum levels of ripeness, and cool-vinified to preserve their aromas and flavours. After vinification the wines see no oak and are bottled early in order to retain their freshness and delicacy. The result is a simply delicious, elegant style of sweet fortified Muscat that is great on its own or with foie gras, fruit or even blue cheese.
