Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon has been the flagship of Leconfield since the first release in 1977. The philosophy is to produce a Cabernet Sauvignon displaying both depth and elegance where oak adds complexity and enhances the fruit but is not allowed to dominate. Extended skin maceration on the majority of the components of the blend has contributed to the structure of this wine. Harvest has occurred over several weeks from mid April 2003 to early May. Oak maturation was in a blend of new and used premium quality French and American hogsheads for 22 months with several workings to soften the tannins and fill-out the flavour.
Deep crimson red with purple hues, the nose is a lifted perfume of rich blackcurrant fruit and stylish oak, black olives expressing classic Coonawarra regional characteristics. The palate is, deep and rich with full sweet cassis fruit and chocolaty depth. It shows lovely balance with a velvety warm texture and fine tannins for which Leconfield reds have become famous.
