The vineyards at Quinta do Crasto include several hectares of Touriga Nacional which has long been recognised as the premium grape of the Douro Valley for the production of high quality port and table wine. At Quinta do Crasto, Touriga Nacional grapes are always fermented separately, some as port, and some as Douro red wine. After 24 hours of foot treading in lagares (granite tanks) this wine was fermented in stainless steel before being run into French oak barrels to complete the fermentation. The wine shows a youthful toasty, smoky bouquet with intense, spicy fruit characters. The palate is long and focused and very elegant, with ripe concentrated fruit and well integrated oak, good balance and fine structured tannins. This full-bodied red wine will suit best rich heavy dishes.
