Roberto Voerzio

Roberto VoerzioPiemonte

Roberto Voerzio forged away from the mainstream many years ago, to follow his unswerving and determined belief that great wine can only be grown in the vineyard. His estate covers about 10 hectares in total, situated in some of the very finest sites of La Morra, and is cultivated organically. Roberto tends each and every vine himself, adjusting every stage in the viticultural cycle to the individuality of each plant, severe green harvests and bunch trimming, tiny yields, vinification accompanied by the sounds of Led Zeppelin, micro vinification units and some of the best vineyard land in the world. This can only be Roberto Voerzio, the man who is now too maverick even for the ‘Langhe In’, his wines are now as cultish as the music played when making them, and rightly so. It is important to remember that for all the high-octane ideas and practices that hallmark Roberto’s wine making, his ethos is clear. He will tolerate nothing less than the absolute expression of the Nebbiolo from the particular vineyard in that year, and if the fruit isn’t good enough the wine doesn’t get made. In 2002 he made no Barolo at all, and it is this integrity that has led him to become one of the few icons of the winemaking world.

Roberto Voerzio Barolo Brunate 2001
Bin No. VOERZBBR01
Price: £105.00
Voerzio’s Barolo Brunate is definitely one of Piemonte’s stellar wines and certainly highly acclaimed, it being the recipient of the fabled Tre Bicchieri award. The wine is made from 100% organic Nebbiolo grapes, which were hand harvested from vines up-to 40 years old and at a yield of less than two-and-a-half tons per acre. Intense in colour it displays aromas of tobacco leaf, plum and vanilla. This is a big wine with firm dry tannins that will ..

Dog Point Vineyard

Marlborough

James Healy and Ivan Sutherland left Cloudy Bay in 2003 after many years service as winemaker and vineyard manager respectively, to make wine from Ivan’s Dog Point Vineyard.

The name Dog Point is derived from the scrub covered hill, overlooking the Wairau Plains, designated by the early European settlers as a place where shepherds’ dogs who had got lost, or wandered off, took refuge. They
