Mount Langi Ghiran
Grampians
The vineyards of Mount Langi Ghiran are nestled between two dramatically beautiful mountain ranges - the Grampians on the southern edge of the Great Dividing Range in Western Victoria, 180 km west of Melbourne.
Pronounced "Mount Langee Jeeran", the name is Aboriginal for "Home of the Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoo". The initial vineyards were planted by the Fratin brothers in 1963, on the site of a vineyard that had been in operation at the turn of the century.
Their first plantings were Shiraz, and initially, the grapes were sold to neighbouring winemakers. The exceptionally high quality of their fruit quickly drew a strong following and encouraged the Fratins to begin making their own wine. In 1979, Trevor Mast was appointed consultant winemaker. Inspired by the potential of the vineyard and keen to develop it further, he purchased the property in 1987. Two partnerships followed, until in late 2002 the property was purchased by the Rathbone family, also proprietors of Yering Station winery in the Yarra Valley.
Dan Buckle joined the winemaking team at Mount Langi Ghiran in 2003. Dan began work at Coldstream Hills winery in the YarraValley. Working as assistant winemaker to James Halliday he gained invaluable experience and was exposed to many of the great wines of the world thanks to this distinguished winemaker.
In 1999 after two vintages at Coldstream Hills, Dan joined the team at Yering Station. It was in his first year at Yering Station that Dan worked vintage at Champagne Devaux, partners in the YarraValley winery’s sparkling wine venture - Yarrabank.
In 2001, Dan returned to France for another vintage, this time working with the Yves Confuron at Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot in Vosne Romanee and at Domaine de Courcel in Pommard.
A state-of-the-art winery and fastidious vineyard management enable Mount Langi Ghiran to consistently produce wines of the highest quality For a greater insight into this winery visit their website here;Mount Langi Ghiran Winery

| King Billi Billi was a well respected Aboriginal chief, and occasional sheep rustler, whom the creek adjacent to Mount Langi Ghiran is named after.
The 2005 Billi Billi Shiraz is made from grower’s fruit, specifically old bush vines up to 60 years in age. The focus of this wine is on fruit intensity over age ability and complexity; therefore the Billi Billi Shiraz is produced with the drinker in mind.

| Mount Langi Ghiran is the name given to an ancient granitic outcrop, rising from the plains of Western Victoria, some 500 million years old. The soils of the foothills are sedimentary red clays, covered with a thin layer of weathered granitic sands caused by the erosion of the mountain itself.
Mount Langi Shiraz is a unique expression of the red Shiraz grape variety; with seasonal variation showing the hallmarks of this single vineyard wine. .. |
