Vines were first planted at Craiglee in 1863, but due to an economic downturn the doors of the winery were closed in the 1920’s. Patrick planted vines on the site of the original vineyard in 1976 and processed the first wine in 1979, with the first commercial release being the 1980 Shiraz, released in 1982. All fruit used at Craiglee is estate grown and hand-picked with natural processes used in making the wines to reflect better each individual vintage. The wines always show a strong varietal style, with aromas and flavours characteristic of their location.
Pat Carmody makes fabulous, idiosyncratic wines without reference to fashion or marketing.
