Isabel Estate

Isabel EstateMarlborough

Back in the early eighties, most investors looking to purchase land suitable for a vineyard in the Marlborough region would apparently accept any suitable land offered to them. The Tillers, on the other hand, were way ahead of their time in searching for a very specific site that would enable them to create something special. Eventually they found the perfect location, an ideal site on higher ground to the south of the valley and on the banks of the Omaka River. Here the river had washed out varied soil particles for thousands of years. Mike and Robyn realised that not only was vineyard location extremely important, but also high vineyard plant density too, this at a time when many producers were planting vine rows as wide as possible! Special tractors were imported from Italy to handle the unusually narrow rows in the Isabel vineyard and cultivation began soon resulting in the superb grapes the estate has become famous for.

For many years Isabel supplied their fruit to other famous wineries; however that changed with the first commercial release of their Sauvignon Blanc in 1996. Since then this wine has achieved iconic status and won many awards.

We sought a combination of citrus and grapefruit characters, as well as a touch of honey and tropical notes. Oenol ..

Isabel Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2004
Bin No. ISABELSAUV
Price: £10.95
Wine Notes as supplied from the Isabel Estate archive: Viticulture A quite cool early spring lead to a very even and complete flowering and fruit set. As December rolled through, temperatures rose and canopies quickly filled out. February arrived and the temperatures dropped which lead to an extended ripening season. Leaf plucking to increase sun exposure into the fruit zone was done in early January. This combination allowed us to bri ..

Hawke's Bay

Nestled at the foot of the three crested 'Roy's Hill', nine miles south west of Hastings in Hawke's Bay is Trinity Hill.

The winery is a partnership between John Hancock, Robert and Robyn Wilson (owners of London's Bleeding Heart and The Don restaurants) and Aucklanders Trevor and Hanne Janes; three founding families hence the name "Trinity Hill".
