Montepulciano Dr Carletti is passionate about every inch of his vineyards and employs dramatically low yields to ensure that his Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon are of the very highest order. The results have made the Poliziano estate not only one of the finest in the region but in the whole of Italy and a regular Gambero Tre Bicchiere winner with the stunning single vineyard wine Vigne Asinone. Poliziano was started in 1961 with an initial nucleus of 22 hectares. It has grown over the years to reach its present size of 110 hectares, all planted in vineyards. Its name is an homage to the humanist poet Angelo Ambrogini (1454-1494), known as "Poliziano", who was born in Montepulciano. The vineyards are located primarily on the slopes south of Montepulciano, which decline towards the east in the direction of Valiano. There are approximately 30 hectares of vineyards clustered around the winery's buildings as well as a number of individual properties that range in size from eight to thirty hectares; together these constitute the entire property. The vines are planted at altitudes ranging from 280 to 400 metres above sea level, in an environment that is well suited to them, with soil that is primarily volcanic clay and slightly rocky. 	Poliziano Le Stanze 2005 - Tuscany, Italy Bin No. LESTANZE05 Price: £40.00 Tiny quantities of grapes for Le Stanze are hand harvested and then undergo fermentation for about 20 days. Ageing then takes place in new oak barriques for 18 months and then the wine spends a further 8 months in bottle before its release.
