Fonterutoli

FonterutoliChianti Classico

“….terrific class, this is the Château Margaux of Chianti.” (Steven Spurrier, Decanter Magazine)

Owned by the Mazzei family since 1453, the Fonterutoli estate is unique in Tuscany and is centred on the eponymous hamlet, five kilometres south of Castellina in Chianti. The estate encompasses some 500 hectares in total with a proportion of this land divided among four key viticultural areas; Fonterutoli (planted with Sangiovese and Merlot); Siepi (planted with Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon); Badiola (Sangiovese and Merlot) and Belvedere (Sangiovese) - Castello di Fonterutoli are another exponent of the ‘Château’ concept!

Their portfolio starts with the estate’s first wine, Castello di Fonterutoli, a reserva style ‘super’ Chianti Classico which has a second wine Fonterutoli Chianti Classico. The renowned Siepi is a Super-Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Merlot and is heralded as among the top releases from Italy in any given year. Finally in the portfolio is Badiola, a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot aged in French and American oak to produce an easy drinking accessible wine representing sensational value for money.
