Ribera del Duero

In 1972 Alejandro Fernández started his very own winery in Ribera del Duero - it was of a modest nature with a small 16th century winepress where almost the whole process was conducted.

Producers in the region were few and far between and had little ambition, it was common practise at the time to uproot vines and substitute them for irrigated crops like beetroot, however, Alejandro persevered with his planting of vines, driven by his passion and conviction continually upgrading and adding to his winery and vineyards.

Then an unexpected accolade from Robert Parker alerted attention to the region's potential, when he hailed the Pesquera 1986 of Alejandro Fernández as the 'Pétrus of Spain'.

Today more than 200 hectares of wonderful mature vineyards supply this magnificent winery which still sits proudly on the edge of the village of Pesquera and where one of Spain’s greatest wines is produced.

The 2008 Pesquera Crianza from Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez is, as always, made from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grapes aged for eighteen months in new American oak barrels, followed by a further six months in the bottle. To the nose Pesquera has an intense bouquet of rich dark berry fruits, with hints of spices, vanilla and oak.
