La Spinetta Barbaresco Vigneto Starderi 2001

La Spinetta Barbaresco Vigneto Starderi 2001
Bin No. SPINETTAVS
Price: £65.00
In the early 1800s the grandfather Giuseppe Rivetti, whose nickname was Pin, emigrated to Argentina from Neive. Once he returned in Piedmont he founded the family winery and brought his children up in Castagnole Lanze to be dedicated and expert winegrowers.
The grapes are harvested and vinified in the first week of October. Maceration and fermentation lasts 7-8 days in temperature controlled horizontal tanks. Malolactic and fining take place in new French barriques, for approximately 20-22 months. During this period racking tales place several times to clarify the wine. After the refining period the wine is placed in steel tanks for 3 months and then bottled. Fining and filtration is not carried out. The wine is then allowed to settle in the bottle for a period of 12 months prior to release.
This wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes and is full-bodied, complex and dry with balanced acidity strong oak and big tannins. Dark ruby in colour with aromas of black pepper, blackberries, coffee, tobacco and vanilla, which carry through to the palate.
Awarded a Tre Bicchieri in the Gambero Rosso
Press notes from The Wine Spectator 17/11/04
Extremely fresh on the nose, with fruit and raw meat character. An almost leafy character underneath. Full-bodied, with big, chewy tannins that are round and caressing. This is a big red with a lot of heart. Best after 2007. 93 Points. James Suckling

Dog Point Vineyard

Marlborough

James Healy and Ivan Sutherland left Cloudy Bay in 2003 after many years service as winemaker and vineyard manager respectively, to make wine from Ivan’s Dog Point Vineyard.

The name Dog Point is derived from the scrub covered hill, overlooking the Wairau Plains, designated by the early European settlers as a place where shepherds’ dogs who had got lost, or wandered off, took refuge. They
