USA - California

USA - CaliforniaThere is an unfortunate miss-conception amongst many of the wine drinking public that the Californian wine industry purely exists on wines produced from a handful of major brands. One only has to take a glance around the shelves of the high-street stores and supermarkets at the ranges on offer there to obtain this impression! However here at Hic! it is our intention to broaden your wine drinking horizons of America’s Golden State and introduce to you some of the true superstars of American wine-making. Over the last couple of decades Californian wine-makers have managed to fashion some of the world’s finest: Cabernet Sauvignon wine, Merlot wine, Zinfandel wine and Chardonnay’s, by rejecting the powerful overblown fruit styles of previous generations and opting instead for wines with greater finesse and elegance.
Hopefully our range on offer will prove to you, that there is much, much, more to Californian wines than those that are the standard bearers for multi-buy’s, B.O.G.O.F’s (Buy One Get One Free) and heavy discounts that are so prevalent on the supermarket shelves up and down the country!

J. Lohr Riverstone Chardonnay 2004 - The grapes for this wine were all harvested from the Greenfield vineyards in Monterey. The wine was 100% barrel fermented in a combination of French and American oak, 40% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine was then racked and aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak, of 1, 2 and 3 years of age.The resulting chardonnay is medium straw in colour displaying delicate aromas of citrus, nectarine and peach, with a bouquet of butterscotch, toasted oak, vanilla and butter. The fully ripened fruit and malolactic fermentation provide a luscious texture with white stone fruit, lime and buttery flavours balanced with vanilla and toasty oak. Drink on its own as a wonderfully complex and lively aperitif or as a great accompaniment to seafood, particularly lobster and shrimps or to any white meat dish.

Nestled at the foot of the three crested 'Roy's Hill', nine miles south west of Hastings in Hawke's Bay is Trinity Hill.

The winery is a partnership between John Hancock, Robert and Robyn Wilson (owners of London's Bleeding Heart and The Don restaurants) and Aucklanders Trevor and Hanne Janes; three founding families hence the name "Trinity Hill".
