South Africa
Since the end of apartheid the quality of South African wine has blossomed, winemakers were at last given the opportunity to catch up with the rest of the world of wine and finally now some ten years later we are starting to see the real benefits of professional vineyard management.
By adopting multiracial democracy the country was able to establish export markets for South African wines and thus create much needed revenue which has helped to fund the production of even better quality wines in South Africa.
Over the past decade South African wine production has caught up with its vinous neighbours and through its vine improvement programme is now at the forefront of viticultural research.
Having spent years in the wine producing wilderness and lagged far behind the rest, South Africa wine producers and the wines they produce are now racing along at the front of the pack as a source of serious, quality wine. |
