France – The Rhône

France – The RhôneFamous for its spicy-rich red wines, the Rhône valley produces what I feel are the finest value wines in the world, ranging from the North of the valley to especially the South. The region has enjoyed a string of wonderful vintages with excellent wines of real class being produced by some extremely talented winemakers.
For those of you who are not all that familiar with the styles of the region the Rhône divides into two prominent regions – the north which is dominated by the ink-black wines of the Syrah grape and the south which is largely influenced by the mellow warmth of the Grenache grape.
Our range of wine from the Rhône encompasses all the major appellation’s throughout the entire valley and should cater for lovers of both north and south styles.

Domaine de la Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape 2004 - Rhone, France - The Cuvée Tradition from Domaine de la Janasse is a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. The yields for these grapes are tiny and the old vines give a great intensity of fruit, with the flavours enhanced by the use of oak foudres and oak barriques.Detailed Vinification notes:Maceration lasts between 15 and 18 days with a manual pumping over every 24hrs. Ageing is in large oak barrels (80%) and in 1/3 new barriques (20%). Improvements here in recent years have been mostly in viticultural practice: Sabon does more work in the vines than ever before, including routine green-harvesting and lots of leaf pulling,
